Terms For Affiliates
Unless agreed separately, affiliates will receive payment for referrals on a quarterly basis. Payments are made around one month after each quarter has ended. This is to allow 30 days from the date of purchase, allowing time for potential refunds.
LanguaTalk will calculate the payout based on the agreed commission per referral, then pay directly to the affiliate's chosen bank account via Wise (formerly TransferWise), unless agreed otherwise. LanguaTalk will cover the payment fees, though Wise may charge a small fee if you wish to be paid in a currency other than USD.
For affiliates being paid a fixed fee per referral, a referral is counted when a student takes at least 5 lessons (our analysis shows that approximately 99.8% of students who book lessons do take at least 5 - the requirement of 5 lessons is purely to protect from fraud. However, paid 30-minute trials are occasionally taken and these sometimes do not result in lesson sales, but still show as a 'Conversion' in Rewardful).
The 5 lesson requirement does not apply to affiliates who are instead paid a percentage of lifetime spend per customer. For those affiliates being paid based on lifetime spend, as specified in the dashboard, commission is calculated based on net sales, i.e. after Stripe payment processing fees are removed. The payment processing fee applied is 3.8% (Rewardful doesn't take off payment processing fees when showing sales).
The affiliate scheme has a 60-day cookie window, unless otherwise specified. This means that affiliates will be rewarded as long as the user they refer creates an account within 60 days. As long as they do this, purchases further into the future will still be tracked and counted for commission payouts. (This is superior to many affiliate programs, which require a purchase within the cookie window. Most users take fewer than 30 days to buy lessons after first finding the LanguaTalk website).
It is the affiliates' responsibility to ensure they are using the correct link(s) for tracking referrals.
Whilst refunds are very rare, to protect from fraud, if a user is refunded, the referral will not be paid. If commission has already been paid in relation to a refunded payment, the amount may be deducted from future payouts.
LanguaTalk reserves the right to adjust commission rates. Whilst unlikely, this may be required due to changes in exchange rates, business model, etc. Affiliates will always be given at least one month's notice of any changes to commission rates.
LanguaTalk reserves the right to withhold payment if it has reasonable grounds to suspect fraudulent activity.
Unless agreed otherwise, LanguaTalk will not pay affiliates for links from pages aimed at people searching for reviews about LanguaTalk. This is because affiliates are meant to help people discover us, whereas if an individual is searching for reviews, it means we've already spent money for them to discover us via another channel.
